VQA 2017 PINOT GRIGIO VINTNER’S RESERVE
Pinot Grigio 2017...
What’s in the bottle. A wine that is soft gold in colour, with pleasant reminders of citrus fruits, melon and honey as you gently nose the wine. Complex with dried honeysuckle giving way to pear and lemon meringue flavours, showing plenty of juicy intensity. This young wine was left lying on fine lees, giving a harmonious finish.
Pinot Grigio 2017. While Windrush Estate Winery was still being planned, we set out to have a wine available once the winery construction was completed. Having a life-long relationship with legendary vintner, Jim Warren, we asked him to create something unique, elegant and intriguing. What was created was our 2017 Pinot Grigio. Wanting a style with restrained richness, the wine was aged 60percent in stainless steel and 40 percent in neutral oak barrels and resting on its fine lees. The wine was left for a period to mature and develop the richness we sought while still retaining a fresh clean acidity. The fruit was sourced from a mixture of Beamsville Bench and Lincoln Lakeshore vineyards and aged under the supervision of Jim Warren. The wine was then blended carefully by Chief Winemaker Jonathan Boyle with the focus of finding the right balance for the wine to express itself and for you to enjoy.
Food Pairings. Hors d’hoeuvres, antipasti, especially seafood salad; light pasta sauces including clams, cream or fresh tomato; tiger prawns; seafood or vegetable-based risottos with spring vegetables such as peas and asparagus or with fennel; fish and chips; and Sushi.
